Sarah Carrucan opened the doors to her workshop in 2014. Her previous background was in the legal profession, but she paved her way into furniture-making by completing a Certificate III trade qualification while still working her day job. There is some family history in the trade, too, with her grandfather and great-grandfather both being accomplished (albeit 'amateur') fine furniture makers.

Sarah loves a good 'find' of old hardwood timber, which might come from an old jetty, shearing shed or bridge, and which can be turned into anything from a dining table or rocking chair to carved stools, or even small pieces such as carved serving platters.

While her workshop is small, the use of hand tools allows the 'tool to be brought to the timber', and therefore space for the usual large machinery is not required.

Sarah takes great care in the finish of each piece, hand sanding until the grain is fully revealed, and then hand finishing each piece with oil and wax. This finish produces a silky smooth finish to the timber, while retaining the warmth of the timber in both its look and its feel.
