Have photo booth, will travel: A talented Canberra woodworker and a successful\u00a0Brisbane business owner\u00a0form an enduring \u00a0partnership to produce breathtaking wooden photo booths for hire. \u00a0Steph goes\u00a0behind-the-scenes with\u00a0Dunstone Design and The Photo Booth Guys to paint a picture of the collaboration.<\/i><\/p>\n

Whoever said long distance relationships never work out clearly hasn\u2019t met Canberra-based woodworker and furniture maker, Evan Dunstone<\/a>, and Brisbane business owner, Steve Bliesner.<\/p>\n

Steve \u2014\u00a0owner of the UK and Australia photo booth hire company The Photo Booth Guys<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0initially came to Handkrafted when he struggled\u00a0to find\u00a0a woodworking company to partner with. He\u00a0sought an ongoing relationship with an exceptionally talented\u00a0someone to\u00a0take over the\u00a0company’s production of stunning wooden photo booths, ideally in multiple small batches.<\/p>\n

To fulfil his requirements, Steve put no limits on the distance he would travel.\"photo<\/a>\u201cI didn\u2019t know where to start with finding a woodworker,\u201d Steve recalled of his initial search. \u201cI was finding it really hard to find someone that would take on our projects or could understand what we were trying to do, and didn\u2019t think it was a pipedream of mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, Steve posted a brief and passed the baton to the Handkrafted team, who curated a selection of suitable makers for the photo booth proposal.<\/p>\n

\u201cHandkrafted <\/a>helped me shortlist a bunch of craftspeople that they thought would be able to meet our requirements,\u201d Steve said. \u201cThe team spent a lot of time with me just trying to learn more about what I needed.\u201d\"AustralianSteve desired an artisan who could maintain a high level of detail in the product because he believes this is of the utmost importance to his clients. Above all else, he emphasised wanting the top tier of workmanship for his photo booths.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a way, Handkrafted held my hand until we got down to a couple makers that I felt could do the job, and then I met with each of them to make a final decision from there,\u201d Steve commented. \u201cIt was really quite a seamless process.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One of these businesses was Dunstone Design. Steve gravitated towards Evan Dunstone\u2019s meticulous and thorough approach, as well as his input on improvements to the photo booth\u2019s pre-existing model. (The originals were handmade by a talented, retired luthier.)\"photo<\/a>Evan, too, highlighted Handkrafted\u2019s role in the matchmaking process as advantageous to both parties, since Steve had many expectations met before making the trip to Dunstone Design\u2019s workshop.<\/p>\n

Steve had several questions that he wanted answered for his own satisfaction, and described Evan as having gone \u201cabove and beyond what he would have expected someone to do even before he outlaid any money.\u201d<\/p>\n

He admitted that despite his interest in the photo booths, he had never undertaken\u00a0such an atypical project.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not the sort of thing we\u2019d been asked to do before,\u201d Evan stated. But, once he familiarised himself with Steve\u2019s business, and understood what The Photo Booth Guys were after in a product, he realised he could help.\u00a0\"photo<\/a>Evan now describes the project as heaps of fun for himself and his team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a combination of classic woodwork, metal work, ergonomic issues, and problem solving,\u201d Evan explained. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of marriage between traditional craft and modern technology.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Indeed, the photo booths perfectly merge retro appeal with up-to-date technology for a breathtaking and innovative finished product. The various models for hire all exhibit a similar style, but come in a wide range of hues \u2014 everything from Silver Ash to Brazilian Mahogany \u2014\u00a0to suit the customer’s preference, as well as the event’s decor.<\/p>\n

For the latest instalment, Evan utilised gorgeous Victorian blackwood with deep African wenge and luxe brass details to produce a gasp-worthy creation.\"photo<\/a>\u201cWe\u2019re really pleased that we\u2019ve found Dunstone Design as a partner going forward,\u201d Steve gushed. \u201cThe depth of the team here has been phenomenal. The quality of the product is amazing and far beyond what we expected.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been fun to work with Steve and The Photo Booth Guys in Brisbane,\u201d Evan reiterated. \u201cThe fact that we\u2019re in Canberra and they\u2019re in Brisbane doesn\u2019t seem to be a hindrance at all. I think it is a really good fit, and Handkrafted made that possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
